There's a comprehensive engine line-up for the BMW 5-Series. All the six-cylinder petrols are smooth and powerful, with instantaneous throttle response and plenty of torque for easy motorway driving. But for maximum grunt, you'll need a diesel. Of them all - a two- a 2.5, a three- and a twin-turbo (called the 535d). The car's ride is superb. It's comfortable over long distances and easily takes care of road imperfections. However, it can also be turned into corners with some speed since the grip is outstanding and there's no body roll at all. The active steering (an option) makes manoeuvring this car easy at lower speeds yet it still has plenty of weight at speed. Source: TopGear.com |
